Credit vs. Debit Cards [Infographic]

A while back I wrote about Accepting Credit Cards to Increase Your Massage Business.
That post spurred an interesting discussion recently on our Facebook Page.

I find this topic very interesting.  I saw a big increase in my business when I started accepting credit cards.  And now, a large percentage of my clients (54.8%, to be exact) pay with plastic - whether it's credit or debit.  (Unfortunately, I don't have the % of credit vs debit).  But this number definitely makes it worth it to accept cards in my practice.

What are your thoughts?  Do you use a debit or credit card in your own life?  Do you prefer businesses that offer the convenience of accepting your cards?  Or do you prefer to stick to cash only?

  1. I do accept credit cards and have since day one. I do not have a pin pad however, but this has not detered my clientel from using their cards anyways. Most clients do not know the difference in their banks card terms (credit versus debit) unless there is some sort of incentive for them to use it one way versus the other.
Either way- I feel like if I choose to stop accepting cards, I would probablly loose some business.

    1. Thanks for commenting, Justine. It is interesting - even without a pin pad - many clients like having the option to pay with a card. I can't imagine not accepting cards in my practice at this time. It's hard to believe I was a little nervous about adding it years ago - so glad I did!

  2. I'm all about accepting credit cards. I love it that Square makes it so easy & convenient now! Suck it Wells Fargo!

    1. hahaha, I can totally relate to that! When I first accepted cc's it was with the old fashioned point-of-sale swiper hooked up to the land line phone, and was a real pain getting it all setup with the bank. Square makes it SO EASY. I love it.
